Following the resignation tendered by Mr. Jens Stoltenberg’s second government October 14th, the Norwegian King appointed Mrs. Erna Solberg’s government to take over. The new government consists of the Conservative Party and the Progress Party.
Mr. Ketil Solvik-Olsen was previously a member of the Norwegian Parliament from 2005 to 2013. He has, among other jobs, worked as financial analysts at the international shipping company Leif Höegh & Co.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications has overall responsibility for the framework conditions for postal and telecommunications activities, for the civil aviation, public roads and rail transport sector and for ferry services forming part of the national road system.
The new government instantly moved The Norwegian Coastal administration to The Ministry of Transport. Sea, road, aviation and rail are now, finally, under one minister. This may make it easier to form a complete transport policy. This may also improve the position of short sea shipping.
Earlier, the ports were included in the Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal affairs. In many peoples mind they often seemed too focused on fish.
